Philanthropists have used Jewish Communal Fund’s (JCF) Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) to support their charitable priorities for more than five decades. A DAF is an easy and efficient way to manage charitable giving and receive immediate tax benefits. JCF is the only DAF that itself makes a $2 million unrestricted gift to UJA’s annual campaign each year and funds several high-priority special projects through UJA annually. These projects promote the welfare and security of the Jewish community at home and abroad.
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a philanthropic vehicle that allows individuals, families, and organizations to make charitable contributions, receive immediate tax deductions, and then recommend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations.
Can I use my DAF to pay for tickets to an event?
No, DAFs can’t be used to pay for tickets to events, since such tickets usually have a non-tax-deductible portion that covers the cost of event attendance.
Can other members of my family make distributions from my DAF?
DAFs can be set up in such a way that they involve multiple generations of a family in charitable giving. This can help instill philanthropic values in younger family members and create a lasting legacy of giving.
